JAC’s Court-Appointed Section inputs, reviews and audits due process billings submitted by due process vendors, such as court reporters, investigators, and expert witnesses, for completeness and compliance with contractual and statutory requirements. Due process costs are those costs of enumerated elements associated with providing due process to an indigent person. These elements, as set forth in s. 29.007, F.S., ensure due process in criminal and civil proceedings in accordance with state and federal constitutional guarantees.

Expert Services Information
JAC’s Court-Appointed Section inputs, reviews and audits expert witness billings sent by private court-appointed counsel and expert witness providers including psychologists, psychiatrists, medical doctors, and other experts. Billings from experts for services such as psychological/competency evaluations, crime scene analysis, DNA experts, medical examiners, and media analysis are reviewed for completeness and compliance with contractual and statutory requirements.
When a criminal defendant retains private counsel, yet is determined indigent by the court for purposes of costs associated with the defense and the court approves the provision of due process services, JAC reviews and audits bills sent by due process vendors (such as experts) for payment.

Ordinary Witness and Copies/Other Services Information
JAC’s Court-Appointed Section inputs, reviews and audits Ordinary Witness billings sent by private court-appointed counsel, such as Ordinary Witness fees for testifying in court.
JAC’s Court-Appointed Section also inputs, reviews and audits Copies/Other Service billings sent by private court-appointed counsel or due process vendors. Copies/Other Service billings include costs for items or services such as copies, photos, and criminal records.
When a criminal defendant retains private counsel, yet is determined indigent by the court for purposes of costs associated with the defense and the court approves the provision of due process services, JAC reviews and audits bills sent by due process vendors (such as copies/other services) for payment.
Important Notice: As of November 15, 2018, all requests for Payment of Ordinary and Official Witnesses less than $50 should be billed as Attorney
Reimbursement through the “MyJAC” secure website. Please read the “Attorney Reimbursement of Ordinary & Official Witnesses (less than $50) through MyJAC - Instructions”.
JAC will only make direct payment to a witness when the amount sought is at least $50. For matters involving ordinary or official witness fees of
less than $50, payment will be through reimbursement to the attorney only. The amounts reimbursed will be limited to the amount authorized
under s. 92.141, F.S., (official witnesses) and s.92.142, F.S. (ordinary witnesses).
